Renaissance

Our petrified wood trunks are carefully selected before arriving in our factory so that only the most inspiring pieces are going through a long process of becoming DeepWood originals. After a second inspection of the millions of year old tree trunks, large diamond saws saw the material specifically to our standards. Followed by various polishing techniques, including hand polishing, each piece undergoes a final quality control before being carefully packaged and prepared for shipping.

Process of Mineralization

Over millions of years, minerals penetrate the wood until they eventually take the tree's place - the process of mineralization. Natural disasters, such as volcanic explosions, provide these conditions when trees are covered in ash and without oxygen, so the wood cannot rot. The minerals solidify while organic material is replaced, leaving mineral rocks with the same structure as the original tree.

Sparkling crystals are a naturally occurring phenomenon in petrified wood and create a dazzling array of sparkling jewels. In some rare cases, even larger crystals can form inside of pre-existing holes of these ancient trees. The finishings have been kept naturally or fully polished, where the tree's structure always remains, and the original bark is often visible.
